Your Plasma TV Mounting Advice

Plasma TV wall mounting rather than using a regular plasma TV stand can be fun and easy, if you know what you are doing.  Improper or rushed installation can end in disaster as plasma TV’s are not cheap, and is it is to fall to the ground it could cause a lot of damage to other furniture or ornaments.

Before you purchase a plasma TV, take into consideration where you plan on mounting it.  Take your time because it may be there for a while.  Once you have located a favorable spot, find the right plasma tv for you.  Now that you have a decent spot and a plasma TV, you need to purchase a mounting kit.  This can be for the ceiling or wall, but plasma TV mounting on the wall in the most common application.  You also need to take into consideration what you will be doing with your cables.  They can either be run behind the wallboard or placed on the wall with surface conduit.  Obviously, behind the wall looks nicer but is more labor intensive.

The wall mount has to be the proper type for your plasma TV AND your wall.  If you aren’t sure, ask the manufacturer of the mount or call customer service for your television and see if they can help.  You can buy plasma TV mounts online and in most electronic stores.  Now it’s time to find a stud on your wall.  Stud finders are very affordable and can be found at a variety of hardware stores.  It is critical that you hang your plasma TV on a stud and not just on the wallboard as the weight of the TV will likely pull the screws right out.  Once you have located a stud, mark it with a vertical line, in pencil.  Also mark where you plan to place your screws, but do not sink them into the wall until you determine they are level.

After you are certain the screws are level, you can mount the plasma television.  After it is resting in it’s place, check to ensure it is level once again.  If it is, you can determine where you would like to run your cables.  If they are going through the wall, remove the TV and drill a hole to accommodate what you need to send through.

After your cables are reasonably concealed, remount the TV according to the manufacturer’s requirements and test for stability.  If everything is OK, sit back and relax, and enjoy the show.
