Racing quad bikes has now become a popular activity among children, teens and adults and among groups and individuals who seek excitement and road adventure. Quad racing or riding started from the originally three-wheeled Trikes that were used in off-road racing in America. Quads then emerged as an innovation and improvement of the formerly-loved three-wheeled all terrain vehicles. Trikes were converted into four-wheeled vehicles by removing the single front wheel and welding a sub-frame on the front of the trike.
Quad bikes quickly surpassed their 3 wheeled counterparts as more people took notice of the exhilarating feeling quad riding provides, quad racing then began. Since quads are found to be stable even at high speed, they were seen as perfect vehicles for racing. Quads being all-terrain vehicles are made to ride not only on flatlands but even on the toughest terrains such as sand dunes, rocky or muddy roads, hills, and mountains. There are also racing events for road legal quad bikes.
Quad bike racing has grown over the years and is now actually being considered as a category in sports racing. Along with dirt bike racing, racing off road quads is now part of the adrenaline-infused sports activities adventurous kids and adults love and enjoy. Quad racing events are now being held on different parts of the world and are divided into classes according to age group or quad machine classification.
Most quad racing participants claim that their need for speed and adventure were satisfied by the exhilarating action experienced in the sport. The excitement comes from the action-adventure encounter as they put their skills to test. For them, is all about the exploration of torque power, speed, driving tricks and riding techniques. Racing events are usually organized by different quad bike or quad racing associations. Quad bike racing competitions are usually in 3 or 4-hour duration across different sorts of terrain with an average of 5 miles per lap. Some racing competitions require association membership or training although there are still some that are open for public.
