There are many nursery themes from which expectant parents can choose. Some of the themes have been around for years and others are relatively new. For new parents-to-be one of the best ways to select a theme or color scheme for the baby’s nursery is to begin with selecting the crib bedding. Two of the most popular crib sets are ladybug baby bedding, which is always popular, and the other is Pooh baby bedding, which has changed in appearance significantly over the last decade.
Of course, when we speak of Pooh, we mean Winnie the Pooh, a long time friend of most of us. As children, even the oldest among us can remember our early years when our parents read or told us stories of Pooh and Tigger and all the other mischievous friends who lived in the woods. When the bear and his buddies first burst onto the scene in nurseries, we could only expect to see colors in browns, yellows, green and blue. The colors were as bright as if they had just been dropped from a small Crayola box of crayons.
Today’s Pooh has seen his surroundings change. Baby sheets and comforters, bumpers and pillows now show the fat little bear on pastel pink backgrounds for our little girls and on baby blue backgrounds for our little boys. We have even seen Tigger and friends on a peach background. The point is simple. Cartoons and characters have matured in style and color as manufacturers of linens for baby’s nursery has taken on more style. Parents who no longer wish decorate with primary colors that may not seem soft enough for the newborn can still incorporate the old with the new.
Perhaps, a little more generic in style is the ladybug motif. Let’s face it, none of our parents read stories to us about insects — did they? However, the little bug that represents the new life of spring has made its way into the nursery decor. Crib bedding, comforters, diaper hampers, and stackers can all be found sporting the image of the lady beetle. Done in attractive shades of red with black or dark grey dots, these bugs can be seen on just about any background color. Again, the new shades available for the background has made this pattern much more popular than a couple of years ago.
When it comes to nursery decor, the choices are nearly endless. Manufacturers have met the demand for more options in color and theme. Whether a parent wishes to stick with a traditional character like Winnie the Pooh or venture into a more generic but precious design as with the ladybug, one of the best places to begin is with the crib bedding set.
