Three Steps Of Black Mold Removal

Black mold is a very dangerous substance in the home.  If you are exposed to it, you can suffer from a myriad of health problems, including allergies, respiratory problems including labored breathing, headaches, nausea and a host of other problems.   Often times, if you spot the mold quick enough, you’ll be able to clean up the mold on your own, but if you think that the black mold has turned into a much bigger problem, then you’ll probably want to look into a black mold removal company.

Here are three steps to black mold removal and if you follow them, you’ll have it cleaned up in no time.

  1. The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure that the room is properly ventilated.  Open a window and get a fan going, preferably pointing so that the air is blowing out of the window,  in order to not contaminate the other rooms.  You’ll want to shut the door, and possibly seal off the bottom of the door, if there is a bit more mold.  If you are doing this in the bathroom, and you don’t have a window, then make sure the fan is running.
  2. The next step is to use a misting spray to get the mold wet.  If it is dry when you start cleaning it, the dry mold flakes can become airborne and put you at increased risk of inhaling the mold.  This is dangerous, so make sure to do this step.  If the mold is in an isolated area, you may be able to use a wet washcloth over the mold.  Make sure to wash the washcloth afterward with hot water and soap.
  3. Lastly, you’ll want to use a specialized mold removal product to clean to mold.  These can be found at your local grocery store or hardware store, just look in the cleaning supplies aisle.  Do not use bleach because it will not kill the mold at the root, just bleach them and then it can become an even bigger problem since you cant see the mold but it’s still there growing.

There you have it!  If it was a small enough job, you’ll have cleaned up the black mold in a way that didn’t put you or your family at increased risk or danger of being exposed to the black mold.  Look into some mold prevention tips in order to stop it from occurring again.
