It’s the dream of just about every kid to hop around on the moon like the astronauts. While this can really only be a dream unless he or she manages to get a ticket on one of the special flights that simulates a lack of gravity, there are some fun toys that bring this feeling closer to reality from Earth. There are many different brands and styles of anti gravity boots that have various effects.
The first and most recognizable for anyone who grew up in the nineties is probably the original moon shoes produced by Nickelodeon. These plastic purple and green shoes, were basically miniature trampolines that you strapped to your feet. While they probably didn’t simulate the feeling of weightlessness very well in the end, they brought the feeling of hopping around on the moon that much closer. Since these original moon shoes there haven’t been too many improvements in the world of the anti gravity boot, but there are some new versions that provide some fun.
One of the newest and most popular versions of these boots are very similar to moon shoes, but they have been updated with some improved technology. Instead of just strapping these things onto your feet, the new moon shoes have a boot like plastic component that fully straps around your feet. On the bottom of the boot is a platform with a half oval of springy material. On the material is a grip resembling a tire to help keep traction while using the moon shoes.
Outside of this type of shoe, there are also new toys that are like wearable pogo sticks. Probably a little more terrifying to use considering the hop could be measured in feet instead of inches, but definitely another fun and interesting experience. So you might not be able to travel to the moon right now, but toy manufacturers have proved that we’re not going to stop trying to simulate it.
