One of the most famous wedding dress designers in the world, if not THE most, is Vera Wang. The top designer was born in New York, after her parents emigrated from China to the US. She was actually an incredibly skilled figure skater, competing in the US Figure Skating Championships in 1968 at the young age of 19. Her rise to fame designer fame, however, came through her sixteen years as Senior Fashion Director of Vogue, and then two years working for Ralph Lauren, before she established her own design salon business. It was at this point in time she started designing her famous line of wedding dresses.
Her breakthrough came when another famous figure skater wore a Vera Vang costume, namely Nancy Kerrigan. She also received a lot of publicity for designing many of Michelle Kwan’s skating outfits, and the idea of marketing her dresses through celebrities has stuck with her to this day, as the red carpets are always filled with Vera Wang dresses.
One of the top celebrities she has provided beautiful dresses for is Mariah Carey, who wore a Cinderella wedding dress, modeled after none other than Princess Diana’s famous wedding dress. Other celebrities wearing Vera Wang wedding dresses include Victoria Beckham and her champagne colored satin dress, and Jennifer Lopes who wore a cream colored, lace gown, made by Vera Wang.
