If You Put on Eye Shadow, Do It Right!

Using eyeshadow correctly can dramatically enhance the eyes, with careful color consideration and gentle application, eyes can be captivating.

Powder eyeshadow is probably the easiest to use. For application, brushes, sponges and even fingers work well. For a lighter look, use a brush and for more drama, apply the eyeshadow with a sponge tip applicator. Fingers are great tools for applying any kind of make up, especially eyeshadow cosmetics, as they are extensions of the body, hence, they have the most control.

A darker shadow is better for evening, while a lighter more neutral palate is better for the day, work or play. Depending on the eye color, different types of the eye shadow work better and the goal is to enhance the eye and bring out natural beauty. Whereas many people think to use matching colors to their eyes, contrast is actually better. For instance, blue liner or an accent green shadow looks great on brown eyes, while a brown or gentle black liner works well with blue eyes. With deep set eyes, a bright color gives a nice pop and brings them out, a color like almost white is pretty during the day and a silver eyeshadow can be stunning at night, especially on darker colored deep set eyes like brown.

A great trick is to use the eyeshadow itself as eyeliner, just wet a slanted brush and run it over the eyeshadow, then line the eyes with it. A contrasting color can be used than on the lid, or just the same color but a bit heavier to achieve a darker look works great.

Misuse of eyeshadow can be a disaster. Care must be used not to apply too much or too dark of a color. Eyeliner should be used sparingly for a gentle look. Having fun with makeup, especially eyeshadow can add to a wardrobe and an everyday look, but still should be used tastefully.
