Do you know what your makeup color is? Most women fit into one of four categories: Winter, Summer, Spring and Fall. Knowing your color can significantly assist you in choosing the right type of makeup. How many times have you bought foundation makeup, lipstick or eye shadow, and no matter what you did, somehow just did not look good on your skin? The reason is simple, you bought makeup for the wrong season.
Every year some fashion magazine decides on what the hottest color is for each season. However, no matter what the trend is, there are some colors that are going to look great on you and some that simply are not. Your skin tone, the color of your eyes and your hair all combine to determine what colors work for you.
How do you determine what makeup color season you are? The easiest and simplest way is to take a look at the clothes in your closet. What are the colors of the majority of your clothes? If you do not see a pattern, take a mirror and find a place in your home that is well lit. Grab a piece of clothing in each of the following colors: navy blue, charcoal grey, beige and brown. Do not worry if you do not have any of these colors. Next, drape each piece under your face, shoulder to shoulder. Look closely at your skin tone. If the color brightens up your skin tone, makes the color of your hair and eyes look better, then you have your answer.
If the navy blue and grey work and you are a blonde-haired person, your season is summer. If you are a brunette who looks better in pale colors, then you are also a summer. You are a winter if you are a brunette who likes the way they look in darker colors. If beige and brown work better for you, and you have pale eyes, you are a spring. Finally, if you have dark eyes, and concentrate on beige and brown, you are an autumn – most Asian makeup resources, for example, will say that Asian girls are usually an autumn or winter.
Now that you know what season you are, you can confidently purchase the right makeup. Tell the salesperson at the salon or department store what season you are. Ask them to show you what colors are cool (winter and spring) or which are warm (summer and autumn). Do not hesitate to try the samples provided at the counter. Now that you know your season, you will find it a lot easier to buy the makeup that is most flattering on you.
