These two Kenzo perfumes are my favourite, here is a brief review. The first one, Tokyo by Kenzo is part of the fragrances that I wear regularly. The second one, Jungle pour Homme, is not my cup of tea, but it’s very popular nonetheless and I’m sure some of you will like it.
Tokyo by Kenzo
In spite of its name, this is not an oriental perfume. The name Tokyo is there to recall the image of a sophisticated and cosmopolitan fragrance to be worn by night. In the idea of the designer Kenzo Takada, this was achieved through a citrus and spicy fragrance that will keep you awake.
The opening notes of this Kenzo perfume are fresh and spicy, with notes of ginger and clove, well blended with citrus notes of lemon bitter orange, and grapefruit, that strengthen the depth and intensity of the aroma, between sour and red-hot.
In the middle notes the clove is still dominant with an extra note of pepper (pink pepper according to the official notes). In this phase are also other notes that are hard to isolate, but the list of ingredients gives a help: mate leaves, green tea, nutmeg and red berries. The base notes are still spicy, but the secondary line is with wood and cedar.
I love this perfume because it smells different. The spicy is fresh, and not at all intrusive, perfect for the summertime. For the winter it probably lacks of intensity but it’s not completely out of place. The ideal age range would be between 25 and 35 years.
Jungle pour Homme by Kenzo
Along with Kenzo for Men, this Jungle pour Homme by Kenzo is a very popular fragrance, with a wide base that wears it regularly.
The opening is sour without being citrus, with notes of lime and hints of smoked wood. The middle notes are spicy, around nutmeg, and the final notes have cedar, Guaiac wood and benjui oil which is often used in aromatherapy.
The mix is quite strong, with a general note between bitter and sour, which is very particular and probably won’t meet everybody’s taste. For this reason, it is better to avoid wearing it in a work environment, and in formal situations in general. The best use for this fragrance is personal, with a circle or well-known friends, in open spaces. It can be worn any time of the year.
Suitable for men between 20 and 40 years.
