If you are having your first baby, you may not be familiar with what the different baby bedding items are or the purpose that they serve. If you are decorating a baby nursery on a budget, you may not be sure of which items to exclude and which ones are truly needed. We will review the different types of crib bedding, their uses and purpose.
Dust ruffle
A dust ruffle is a decorative ruffle that goes underneath of the crib mattress. This item is not neccessarily needed. Not all nursery bedding sets offer this item, and unless you truly feel you need that extra decorative touch, I would search it out either.
Comforter
The comforter is a very nice addition to a crib bedding set, and most sets include one. They aren’t usually used except possibly in the winter because of how heavy most are. However, they are very handy if you live in a colder temperature region. However, even if you live in a warmer climate, a comforter is rather nice to have to kind of finish off the bedding set.
Crib Sheet
A crib sheet is an absolute neccessity. Not including one of these in your list of needed bedding items would be like sleeping in your own bed without a sheet. In fact, I would be certain to have a couple of extras on hand as well. Generally, babies have overnight leaks from time to time, and you will want an extra or two so that you have the time to wash the soiled one.
Crib Bumper
A crib bumper is used to keep baby from rolling around and bumping into the crib itself. It is a rather important part of the bedding set so be sure to include this in your list. Many sets come with one of these as well.
The above mentioned are just the simplest items included in baby bedding sets. There are other useful and decorative items that can be purchased to match each set.
