When kids turn seventeen years old, they are usually in the 11th grade and that is the time when some important decisions have to be made. The most important decision, and it could actually affect the rest of their lives, is whether they want to go to college after they graduate.
In order to get accepted and enrolled in college, you need to plan ahead and apply when you are in the 11th grade and not the 12th grade. By the time you are a senior in high school, it is often too late. So, when you are a Junior in high school, that is when you have to be making most of your decisions.
Going to college is not for everyone and especially now when the price is so high. Most kids have to get loans and end up graduating in debt which may not be the best choice for some. For those 17 year olds that don’t want to go to college, they will have to hope there are jobs available when they graduate.
Jobs for 17 year olds and jobs for 18 year olds are very tough to find now and may be for years. The economy is such that getting any kind of a good job that pays well may not realistic for many. This makes college a good option as by the time a student graduates in four or five years, things may be different and jobs may be easier to come by
College costs are the biggest hurdle to overcome as they have skyrocketed out of control in the last ten years. It makes the decision of whether to go to college or just try to get a job a very tough one. College is always recommended but having to go so much in debt can be a bad thing if you have to spend a good portion of your adult life trying to pay off the loans. Whatever decision 17 year olds make this year, lets hope it is the right one for them.
