One of the reasons so many people are keen on purchasing a sushi making set these days is the ability to create some truly wonderful Japanese food creations right in their own homes without having to trek far and wide to find a decent sushi bar at affordable prices. With a home sushi set, you can bring a little slice of Japan to your friends and family, but it pays to understand a little bit about what goes into creating great sushi. Here are a few tips to get you on your way:
First, be sure to treat your rice properly. So many people take rice for granted, when in reality it is the absolute cornerstone of good sushi, making or breaking the entire experience. In order to properly prepare the rice, be sure to wash it a few times in order to reduce some of the starch content. Once this is done, you can cook it and cover it with a wet rag in order to retain the moisture content. You definitely don’t want to go to the trouble of getting all the materials for your sushi prepared, only to find out that your rice has dried out from sitting uncovered for too long!
Another vitally important part of the sushi equation is the Nori, or seaweed wrap that forms the thickest covering around the ingredients in the sushi. Be sure that you moisten it slightly in order to make it a little more malleable. Nori can be notoriously hard to work with when it’s too dry, so taking a few moments to up the water content will save you plenty of misery when it comes time to make the sushi rolls. Also worth keeping in mind is the length of your Nori slices: Be sure to leave at least a half inch worth of slack on the end of each strip in order to have enough material to create a tight seal around the fish.
If you pay attention to the preparation of these two key ingredients in sushi, you’ll be well on your way to providing a great treat for your friends and family with The Sushi Set!
