If you are looking for a very small bluetooth headset, then one of the best ones out there (and maybe the smallest bluetooth headset you will find) is the Motorola H17. It is tiny, measuring just 1.65 inches long with the mic extension retracted.
It’s a great little unit, very well designed and with lots of really good features.
It seems that Motorola has become the de facto standard manufacturer of tiny bluetooth headsets. Nobody seems to be able to match them when it comes to producing such diminutive little models (we’re thinking the H12, the H15 and more recently the stylish H790).
A nice design feature of the H17 is the way the mic retracts into the main unit when not in use. This keeps it really compact and actually makes it very easy to use. Just pull out the mic, and the unit is immediately switched on and ready to use. Motorola’s RapidConnect technology ensures that the devices talks to the last phone it was paired with, as long as that phone is within range. When you’ve finished talking, just flip the mic back and it turns the headset off, ensuring that the battery is not wasted.
But what is the audio quality like when you actually use the headset? Well, you won’t be disappointed. Motorola have implemented their CrystalTalk technology on the H17, which is a groundbreaking technology that is both noise-cancelling and sound-enhancing. This means that the sound is excellent, crystal-clear with no unwanted noise.
The controls are all easy to work too. Given the size of the unit, this is quite an achievement. A lot of miniature bluetooth headsets can be very fiddly and awkward to use, but the H17 is neither. The controls are clearly laid out and ergonomically, it’s all very intuitive.
So how much does it cost? Well, list price is $79.99, but if you shop around you should be able to pick one up for $50 or so, from a variety of online retailers and high street stores.
In conclusion, the Motorola H17 gets a double thumbs up for its sound quality, ease of use, cool design and price.
