Every bride dreams of the perfect wedding-multiple bridesmaids, a lavish setting, beautiful music-all coming together with loads of family and friends.  Those dreams should never be dismissed for any reason, but there are some guidelines a bride and her groom should keep in mind as they plan their dream wedding.

When planning a dream wedding, write down all those fantasies.  Don’t let a budget throw a wet blanket on the fantasies.  Write down everything—from flowers to flower girl; from wedding cake to wedding dress; from band to big eats.  And the list goes on and on.  It’s the greatest day of a couple’s life—spare no dreams.

Both bride and groom should write their lists separately, then exchange with one another.  If one partner has some off-the-wall ideas, the other person should never be critical.  This is not the time to have a closed mind.  Discuss one another’s ideas, then decide on the ones most important to both bride and groom.

Put your ideas in numerical order-number 1 being the most important. (This is a great exercise for couples to put in place in their married lives.)  After prioritizing, it’s time to get real.  How much does the couple want to spend?  And what on their lists will their budget allow?

There are literally dozens of things to consider, but the all important budget looms large for any bride and groom.  So it is of the utmost importance to decide on the things in a wedding that are the most meaningful to the bridal couple.  Estimate the costs of those things, then plan a budget around it.

A budget is never set in stone, but don’t go overboard.  Couples should also realize that no matter what they spend on their wedding, they are still very much married and their wedding day will be a great day.  With some planning, an open mind, and a reasonable budget, just about any couple can have the wedding of their dreams.

A footnote to consider–A couple might also keep in mind weddings they’ve attended.  They should think about all the things in those weddings they liked and all the things they didn’t like.  The music was superb, but the setting was over decorated.  Too many attendants could detract from the bride’s grand entrance, while another bride might love the pomp and circumstance of several bridesmaids.  One wedding’s simplicity adds to the sweetness of the ceremony or maybe it was too short and sweet.  There are no shortage of good wedding ideas.
