Glass Blocks Play On Transparence

More and more popular in the bathroom, for basement windows and for many other uses, glass blocks can play with light and transparence. They let light in while they make a spectacular separation between two areas. These blocks are decorative, sometimes clear, sometimes colorful. If you are interested in creating a separation that lets light in, here are a few tips.

If you want to separate a bathroom from an adjoining bedroom, you can use glass blocks instead of an opaque wall. This will allow you to maximize the space. You will bring into your bathroom daylight, and you will not need any tiles on the bathroom wall. If your other walls are already tiles all you will need to do is to add a shower tub.

Glass blocks can be used to let in daylight into a room without windows. By removing part or all of a partition you can bring in light without having to build windows. This has the advantage of limiting the number of openings to the outside of the house. An interior wall partition can be built without a permit, and is much cheaper than the structural needs of an outside window.

Glass blocks for a kitchen separation. If your kitchen is adjacent to the dining room (most are) but does not have a direct opening towards it, you can create one with a glass block partition. You could even make your partition a serving counter.

If an entryway lacks light, as many do, glass blocks can fix the problem. In that case replace a part of a wall to an adjoining room with a few blocks. Preferably choose the room with the most daylight entering.

These are just a few ideas you can use to enhance your home with light. Glass blocks are easy to install and many handy people can do it themselves in a weekend.
