If you are going to take the time and the risk of cleaning your own gutters, you should make sure that you have the right tools to do this job properly. I have been cleaning gutters for a few years now, and I can recommend some of the best tools that I think would help you out the most. Although there are many tools that you could use, and most of them would probably work just fine, the ones that I think are the most important are listed below:

The first and most important tool you should have for gutter cleaning is a 24 foot adjustable ladder. This will allow you to place a ladder on uneven terrain, and still have it be level so that you can get up on the ladder and safely clean your gutters. I love this tool, because it makes it less dangerous to do gutter cleaning. Plus having a 24 foot ladder instead of a 20 foot ladder, will allow you to safely reach gutters that are up to 2 ½ stories high.

The next most important tool for cleaning out gutters is a gutter cleaning rake attached on the end of an extension pole.  This rake will allow you to reach very far and cover more ground faster when you are cleaning your own gutters. Having a gutter cleaning rake can save you as much as half the time it would otherwise take you to do your gutter cleaning job.

The third most important tool you need when you are cleaning gutters is to have the right kind of gutter cleaning gloves. There are three different types of gloves you should carry. The first type is a cold-weather glove type. This will allow you to clean gutters when it is extremely cold. The next is a rubber or latex glove, this will allow you to clean out gutters that are full of water. The next type is an all-purpose glove, which will help you to clean out goo and gunk from gutters and not worry about what you are putting your hand into.

The fourth most important tool you should have is a sturdy bucket with a handle. I would suggest that you use a 5 gallon bucket with a handle when you are cleaning out your gutters.  This bucket is where you will collect all the debris you have taken from your gutters. Most of the time, you will take this bucket up and down the ladder with you, so you want to make sure that you can maintain your balance when carefully bringing it up and down. Always remember, having the right gutter cleaning tools will make this most exhausting job quicker and easier.

Tasty Tips for Cooking with Gas Grills

Cooking up a storm on your barbecue is always a treat, but it takes a lot more work than many people realize. It’s not just about throwing as much food onto the grill as possible and hoping that things turn out okay. You have to put effort into the process right from the beginning and all the way through until each and every piece of barbecue food comes off the grill. It’s all about love and it really shines through with this particular cooking method when you do the best job possible. Here are some simple tips that will make sure your barbecue meal turns out great every time.

Clean equipment – you would be surprised at how many people fire up their gas grills without cleaning them first. It’s absolutely essential that you clean your barbecue from top to bottom and that goes double if you’re using a charcoal grill. You don’t want leftovers from your last meal to get into your food, especially when it consists of burned particles that are utterly unhealthy.

Flavor - while you might get decent results from simply putting certain pieces of meat on your grill, you should always take every opportunity to add your own flavors. Whether it’s with a dry rub or your own secret barbecue sauce, try to marinade meat like chicken and pork for a good amount of time beforehand. Don’t make the rookie mistake of relying on barbecue sauce otherwise your food will taste generic and boring.

Fresh ingredients - far too many people these days rely on frozen barbecue food instead of buying fresh meat and produce from their local grocery store. It might be easier and faster to cook using burgers and chicken wings that come frozen, but there’s no way it’s going to taste as good. Use the best ingredients that you can afford and don’t forget about the wonderful world of vegetables and seafood either.

Side dishes – a barbecue isn’t just about what comes off your grill. It’s about the entire experience which means you have to make sure you have a bit of something for everyone. There should be traditional favorites like potato salad and coleslaw, and there are plenty of side dishes that you can find with multicultural inspirations. Try to come up with a balanced meal where your side dishes complements your meat which can be rather heavy-handed greasy.

Happy Grilling to you and your family!

Why Hire a Roof Cleaner?

For the typical homeowner, buying and using roof cleaning products or hiring a professional roof cleaner is not just for keeping your roof looking good. Though it is nice to have an attractive clean roof, the most important reason is to keep the roof properly maintained. Neglecting your roof can lead you to have big problems in the future. Have you noticed some ugly black streaks on your roof?  You might think they are the work of mold on roof shingles but actually are as a result of Gloeocapsa Magma, a blue-green type of algae that is extremely hardy. Algae may appear to be innocent, but once it is left to run wild, it can damage your asphalt shingles, compromising on their integrity and overall health.

The shingle infestation normally occurs when a single algae spore or a group of them traveling on the land or on air lands on your roof. Once it attaches itself, it starts consuming the shingles granules slowly, multiplying and spreading. Limestone acts as food for the algae hence enabling it to expand and grow occupying more sections of your roof. The sight of the roof stains can be quite gross and unseemly, but it is a clear indication that your shingles are being eaten away! Something needs to be done before the growth becomes too much and you lose more roof granules when the stains remain unchecked for long. Roof granules are very important as they are responsible for the reflecting property of your roof. If you lose them, heat will build up in your attic leading you to incur high energy costs especially during summer when your AC will be working all day to keep your house cool.

When you lose the shingle granules on your roof or you allow the erosion of your roof to continue by not dealing with the roof stains, you will be reducing your roof’s life span. Your roof will not be able to last as long as expected. Currently the cost of a new roof ranges between $15,000 and $35,000. This is for an average sized home. This is a lot of money for most homeowners which is why I wonder as a homeowner, you would not want to do everything in your power to maintain your roof and avoid these costs. Please take my advice on how to choose roof cleaning supplies or professional roof cleaners to help you maintain your roof. You should do everything you can to protect your roof and have a good looking house, your most valued investment!

Tips for Buying Used Solar Panels

New residential solar panels are more affordable than ever. Until the late Eighties, solar systems were designed almost exclusively for commercial properties, but now it’s easy for homeowners to find 200 watt home solar panels between $500 and $1000. For most buyers, new panels are the best choice, especially if they lack the patience to deal with the testing and minor repairs sometimes necessary for used models. However, if you know that to look for in a used solar panel, you can save quite a bit of money. Look to spend about $1 to $2 per watt on a panel that still output about 50% to 60% of its original rating.

Buy Local

Nowhere is the “Think global, act local” adage more applicable than with used solar panels. While the Internet offers plenty of leverage for comparison shoppers under normal circumstances, you won’t be able to verify the actual power output before it’s shipped, nor will you be able to check closely for defects like crack glass, condensation, browning, and loose connections. Look for panels at flea markets, farm auctions, office liquidations, swap meets and recycling centers instead.

Test the Output Yourself

The average expectancy of a solar panel is about 30 years, but even then, performance only degrades slowly. You’ll never find a used panel whose output closely matches its original rating, but as long as you know how much power your house needs, the inevitable degradation is less of an issue—you’ll  still get most of the advantages of solar energy even in less efficient units, within reason.

Whenever you go to look at a used panel, bring along a multimeter (they can be purchased for under $20) to see how closely the DC voltage and amperage reflects the stated rating before you start negotiating the price. If the glass is cracked or traps condensation, however, testing will not be necessary, since the solar arrays’ conductivity will be compromised. If you’re willing to repair a panel in this state, only use the meter to test that the panel outputs any electricity at all—but disregard the levels shown.

Determine What Defects You Can Accept and Repair

Some experts advise against purchase used panels with any defects, which is sound advice for homeowners with zero technical skills who want to minimize all risk. But not all defects are harmful or onerous to repair. All solar panels brown over time, for instance, but this browning doesn’t impact performance. Glass panes can be replaced, and loose or broken wiring can be soldered back into shape. If you lack soldering skills, consider repairing connections with a silver infused epoxy like SilverPrint or CircuitWorks Conductive Epoxy.

Compare to Unused Surplus and Discontinued Panels

If you find a used 180 watt panel for $350, you might be able to find a new panel for $100 more that’s a discontinued model, so the price difference can be negligible considering the difference in degradation and performance (solar panels made after 2005 generate significantly more power in the shade, for instance). A used panel is only a bargain if it’s considerably cheaper than a similarly rated new panel. Check online resellers of surplus and discontinued solar panels before committing to used panels. Sometimes resellers are stuck with older versions with solar panel manufacturers upgrade to a new version between reorders, so these vendors are often anxious to liquidate stock at competitive prices, so be sure that any used panel you’re considering offers a substantially better deal in terms of price-to-performance ratio.

Portable Building Solutions For Every Need

If your organization has a problem where you need additional space or extra room, then a portable building could offer an excellent solution. These box-shaped buildings are modular and can be used in a wide variety of applications whenever it’s not practical to build a permanent structure. Here’s an Aspen Dance Realty overview of some common uses for portable buildings:

Storage Space

Storage is probably the most common application for these types of structures. Since a portable building is available in practically any size, it can provide very efficient and cost effective means of storing your valuable equipment, tools, or office records, because you can pay for only the space that you need. As an additional benefit, it provides security at the same time.

Basic Shelter

Oftentimes construction companies need temporary buildings on site while they are in the process of construction. A portable building will provide basic shelter and work space in such situations. For example, architects and project managers require a workspace, or workers need a sheltered space for eating or securing their possessions out of the weather.

Office Space

A portable building may not be much to look at from the outside, but inside it can be outfitted with an entire range of equipment and features that makes it very suitable as temporary office space. Especially for businesses that need extra space requirements on a seasonal basis, and therefore can’t justify the cost of a permanent structure, a temporary building might provide exactly what they need.

Education

Almost every school district is struggling with budget shortfalls, as well as buckets of red tape when trying to build permanent classrooms. A portable building provides an ideal classroom setting for any number of students. Schools can also justify them because of the uncertainty of fluctuating student enrollment levels.

Emergency Housing

Portable buildings offer a viable solution to the housing problems caused by many different natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods and hurricanes. When such a disaster renders large numbers of people homeless, it’s crucial to find a speedy and flexible method of providing shelter. They can be used for instant medical clinics, temporary hospitals, shower and canteen blocks, as well as family and the dormitory style housing.

No matter whether the situation involves temporary storage for shelter, temp office space, teaching rooms or emergency housing, an inexpensive portable building provides a quick, efficient and practical solution to the problem at hand.

Folding Chairs For General Use

Folding chairs are an extremely useful product for pretty much anyone, and any household. They are valuable in so many situations, such as trips to the beach, going to kids sport events, backyard parties, or even more seats for that impromptu dinner party. Wherever extra seating is needed, folding chairs will come in handy! This article will look at a brief history of folding chairs, and how they can be used today.

On July 7th 1911, a man named Nathaniel Alexander from Lynchburg, Virginia came up with idea of the folding chair. His patent at the time shows he built them for use in schools, churches and even auditoriums. Originally, the plans actually came with a book rest that could be used by the person behind each chair. Folding chairs have definitely changed dramatically since then, and can now be used for all sorts of things.

Folding Chairs for Beach or Camping Trips

On a camping trip, or a visit to the beach there is nothing more useful then folding beach chairs. They are perfect for relaxing around a camp fire with a drink, and chatting away all night. Or at the beach, soaking in the sunshine elevated in comfort above everyone else. They’re also great for eating meals, or just simply chilling out nearby in the sunshine with a thrilling book. They are generally quite portable, and will often come in their own carry bag. This is handy, as it will give you more room to bring other large items camping or beach items with you, like a portable cook-stove or a pop up gazebo.

Folding Chairs in Your House

Folding chairs are amazingly handy to have on hand in any home. Surprise visit from lots of family or friends? No worries, whip out the stock of folding chairs that you have squirreled away for this exact reason! They are exceptionally easy to store due to their ability to fold, a cupboard or simply just in the garage will do fine. Functions such as BBQ’s and birthday parties also no longer pose a problem.

It’s easy to see that folding chairs are useful for all sorts of functions or events. For those that are always on the move, or don’t have a lot of storage space, then folding chairs are a great answer to your problems. If they were required to be stored in every car boot or garage, then we would never have a problem finding a comfortable seat, no matter where we are!

You have decided that you would like to replace some of the smaller desks in your office with a larger l shaped computer desk. Once you have made that decision through careful consideration of all of the advantages and disadvantages, you need to formulate a strategy for getting one of these desks at the best available price. This article will identify some steps that you can take in order to buy a quality office desk at a reasonable price.

For starters, do you need this l shaped corner computer desk right away, or can you wait for up to a month for it? If you need it right away, it won’t do you much good to shop on the internet for it. You’ll need to visit a local furniture store where you can pick out what you want and take it back to the office with you on the same day. In these cases, you may want to check out your local thrift stores, as they will sometimes have quality office furniture that is as good as new, at bargain-basement prices. Due to the stigma that is often associated with these types of stores, the thrift store is a place that most people wouldn’t even think of shopping at, giving you a possible advantage. Visit your local furniture liquidator store, where brand-new furniture often sells for less than some used pieces that are sold elsewhere. If you know of any businesses in your area that are closing up shop or relocating, you may want to pay them a visit and ask them about what they intend to do with their furniture. I did this once, and came away with an awesome l shaped glass computer desk. They practically gave the thing away, because the company was buying all new furniture for their new digs, so they had no use for their old stuff. Check out any other furniture stores in your area and compare prices, as you may find some very significant differences between stores on the same product. And, of course, although it is a pain, don’t hesitate to try to negotiate with the salesman. The worst thing that he can do is to say no.

If you don’t have to have your desk right away, you have some other options at your disposal, in addition to the ones listed above. You can visit online auction sites like eBay, and online marketplaces like Amazon.com, where you can buy a wide variety of items, sometimes at prices that can’t be beat anywhere else. Some sellers on these websites will even offer free shipping, just to move their inventories. If you don’t mind buying a used piece of furniture, you can visit any yard sales in your area, where people are often desperately trying to get rid of things that they don’t need anymore. You can do the same by reading the classified section of your local newspaper. These people are often more than willing to negotiate on the price, potentially leading to a real steal.

By following some of the steps outlined above, you should be able to get a quality l shaped corner computer desk at a price that won’t break your bank.

There are two kinds of roofs when summer arrives: The kind that gets worked on due to perfect weather conditions – and the kind that is forgotten about, usually in favor of barbeque’ing and a few cold ones. By all means, get a cold one – but take it with you for a walk around the outside of your house, and check out the state of the roof while you drink. Time well spent!

When it isn’t raining all the time, or there isn’t a big pillow of snow lying on your roof for months – then it is easy to forget about all the issues you had with your roof over the winter. But of course, now that it is summer, all the problems seem to have gone away, as if by magic. They haven’t you know, but now is the time to make them. Bring out the ladder and get to a proper height for a roof inspection (but don’t drink too much beforehand, and leave the beer on the ground).

Notice anything suspicious? Holes, displaced tiles/shingles, piles of debris – these all qualify as suspicious. Ideally, you want a clean, unbroken roof surface of whatever material you have on it. The reason you don’t want dead leaves, twigs, branches, etc, up there, is because these will conserve moisture on the roof, which may at some point go places it shouldn’t – instead of simply running off, into the gutter. The rain gutters should of course also be clean and free of garbage.

Then go check the underside of the roof – yes, that means you go look in the attic. Here, you don’t want to see wet or dark patches on the underlayment or trusses. You don’t to see light seeping in anywhere – because that means you have a hole in your roof. With some roofing materials though, like clay tiles, there may be a bit of space between them where some light can enter. Professional roofing services will know if it is too much in the case of your roof, so do call the pros if in doubt.

Now that you have a clear picture of how your roof is doing, it is time to act on it. If you see any obvious problems, or you have strong suspicion that something is wrong, please get it fixed while the weather is still good. Once you roof is good as new, you can have another cold one without feeling bad about it!

Buying the Correct Grow Lights

Grow lights have many uses.  Grow lights basically create an artificial sunlight for plants to grow. For example, farmers may use artificial grow lights to accelerate growth readying crops for harvest. It is not unusual for farmers to have specialized indoor hydroponic farms for this very reason.  This brief article will help you to select the correct grow light for the job at hand.  Below you’ll find a list of some types of grow lights available.

High Pressure Sodium (HPS) Lamps

HPS lamps which also go by the name of high intensity discharge (HID) lamps are exceptionally bright and often the first choice for farmers. This is due mainly to their versatility in the color temperature spectrum being even and not so concentrated. One problem with these lights is they run at high temperature, this means the lights are not very economical as some energy is lost to heat. A cooling system might also be required when using these lamps.

Fluorescent Lights

Normally used during the seeding phase of a plants life cycle, fluorescent lamps are widely used by amateur hydroponics enthusiasts as well as professionals. Due to the spectrum omitted by fluorescent lights, vegetables and herbs thrive under this lighting whereas flowers and fruiting plants do not. These lights are relatively cost effective and economic to use as they do not emit much heat while in operation.  Fluorescent grow lights also come in a variety of sub-types such as compact fluorescent grow lights which are smaller and more concentrated light sources that can be either directly pointed at the harvest, or bounced off reflectors to provide a more versatile plant growing experience.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps

The future of hydroponics solutions, the LED grow light emits a versatile light under which all plants can grow while at the same time heat production is minimal. These lights do not require a lot of power to run, however at the moment they are very expensive to purchase. Most people purchasing these lights will know however, of the superiority over other hydroponic solutions. These lights may be expensive to purchase, but over time the low power consumption will actually save the operator money. Remember, these lights do not require external cooling either, so perhaps this is a better all-round solution.

After reading this short article you will be more informed of the types of grow lights out there, and which one is best for you. There is nothing worse than purchasing a product only to find there is something out there which would have done the job better, educating yourself on today’s products will help prevent that.
