Up and coming Pittsburgh rap star Cameron Jibril Thomaz, better known to his fans as Wiz Khalifa is growing in popularity-in great part due to his collection of mixtapes. Wiz Khalifa mixtapes are a hot item in the music market. His first, released in 2005 was called Price of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania. This hot tape led to the creation of a full length album in 2006-Show and Prove. He has released another full length album and several mixtapes since then.
The album, Deal Or No Deal, contains fifteen songs with titles like “Chewy” and “Hit Tha Flo”. The first single released from the album was “This Plane”. Deal Or No Deal was released in November 2009 and reached number one on the iTunes store hip-hop charts. Khalifa’s remaining mixtapes are Grow Season, Prince of The City 2, Star Power, Flight School, How Fly, B.A.R (Burn After Rolling), Kush x Orange Juice, and Cabin Fever. Kush x Orange Juice and Cabin Fever are due to be released in 2010. Fans of Wiz can also purchase items from his clothing line, Taylor Gang.
One reason why Wiz is growing in popularity is his independent style. In an interview with Rolling Out, Khalifa said he “definitely wouldn’t” alter his musical content to make it more mainstream.
Wiz Khalifa mixtapes offer fans new material as well as refreshing remixes of their favorite songs by Beyonce, Drake, and more. Khalifa often alternates between rapping and singing in his pieces.
Although he has been in the music business for over five years, Wiz was featured on the cover of XXL Magazine in March 2010 as one of the “top ten freshmen of the year”.
