When it’s time to move your child from a cot to a bed the choice of kids beds is bewildering. Which do you choose? Thinking about what sort of bed is a good fit for your home and lifestyle is a good place to start before investing in your kids bed.
If space is a premium then you could look at the space saving options. Bunk beds are great for two kids sharing but even with one child the new sleep stations and cabin beds are a great choice.
Sleep stations
Take a set of bunk beds and replace the bottom bunk with a wardrobe, desk and shelves. Now you have sleep station. This is terrific space saving bedroom furniture and if you choose the right one it will grow with your child. What was a great den when are 6 or 7 will become a useful workspace and place for computer gaming when they are in their teens. For the older child, there are sleep stations with couches built in underneath where they can entertain their friends.
For a childs first bed though these might not be a good idea, as getting in and out requires climbing a small ladder
Cabin Beds
Not as high as a bunk and with a box bed arrangement these are a cosy, space saving alternative to the higher bunk models. Your child only has to negotiate a few steps or footholds to get into bed. Nice and snug these have a similar protected feel to the cot with their low side panels and the added advantage of built in cupboard shelf and drawer space.
Standard Beds
If you have a larger bedroom for your child then you can simply buy a good build quality child sized bed. There are many available and some manufacturers can convert these into adult sized beds when your child has grown. This option is a bed for life.
Novelty Beds
If you want to splash out, there are some really fun models on the market. Beds designed to look like a carriage with horses, or a racing car or even beds that look like diggers are available, many online. Alternatively you could opt for a traditional child sized four poster, the ultimate princess bed.
Whatever your choice, make sure that the build quality of the bed is the best you can afford. The best build quality means long service from your kids bed.
