Where there is moisture in your home, you may be subject to the dangers of Stachybotrys Chartarum or toxic mold. The toxins released from this organism flourish in basements and bathrooms where there is moisture and warmth. You should make sure that black mold removal is high on your list of priorities so that the health of you and your family doesn’t suffer.
Black mold removal should be undertaken as quickly as you become aware of it, but protect yourself from further exposure. Wear a protective mask and gloves to avoid breathing in the spores. When you are finished with the removal task, dispose of the equipment in outdoor trash receptacles.
Protective garments are a must when removing mold. At a minimum, they should included masks and gloves. The purpose is to prevent mold spores from getting transferred to other surface. If you are working with large areas of mold, cover the nearby surfaces with plastic or tarps. Dampen the areas where you will be working with water from a mister to reduce the number of spores in the air.
You don’t have to use toxic products to kill the mold spores. There are natural products available. Stronger chemical anti fungicides tend to be expensive, but are sure to get all the mold. Household bleach is effective on the mold that you can see, but may not be able to reach mold spores in cracks or below the surface.
When you have cleaned away all of the visible mold, and rinsed the area if the product instructions require it, remove the gloves, masks and cleaning cloths and dispose of them. The used equipment should be disposed of outdoors. Don’t leave the equipment in an indoor trash can.
Black mold removal is not complete until you have done everything possible to prevent a regrowth of the organism. Dry out the area with fans or preferably a dehumidifier. Cracks that seek moisture should be sealed. Repair leaks from pipes. Do everything possible to protect against these dangerous mold toxins.
