With the number of people who have later become published Jane Austen fanfiction authors, it is not uncommon that some of these will eventually become famous. In fact, there are already a number of authors who have been able to get their big break just by getting their start in fanfiction. Through this, they are now being paid to write Jane Austen sequels for major publishing houses.

But, before they became famous with their own craft, these authors were once using the plot of Jane Austen’s original novels as a way to extend them or make an entirely new breed of fiction. They posted their works in progress on the many Jane Austen fanfiction forums and were critiqued by those who frequented the boards. The reason why fanfiction has become so popular is due to the interest of the general public, and the numerous film adaptations of her work in the past few years. It is believed that Austen wrote too little, having only completed 6 novels in her short life. There are many who hunger for more, even 200 years after her death.

With the emergence of the internet, the fan fic audience has grown because the ever popular sequels to her work are now available just about anywhere. While there are some hilarious extensions that are a very large stretch from the originals; there are also some that are worth honoring as a really well written sequels in their own right. Along with this, the Janeites (Jane Austen fans) have been able to get inspired by these stories and have grown a large appreciation for the hard effort these authors have made to make their stories the best that they can be.

While there are mixed emotions and thoughts on the existence of these fan fiction stories, it cannot be denied that there are a number of these stories that have become loved by many Jane Austen readers, fans, and the greater public. Although these writers are mostly female, there are also a number of men who are writing fanfiction of Jane Austen’s novels.

Among the list of the most famous Jane Austen fanfiction authors are Carolyn Esau, Bill Friesema, Justine Rohm, and many more. While these people enjoy the thought of writing on their favorite characters created by Jane Austen, they are already content with the idea that they have finished a fanfiction. Being read and published is another story. Some authors simply want to turn their labor or love into something more, a book published by a major publishing house.
